What´s your why?
WHAT’S YOUR WHY?
In his inspirational TED talk, “How Great Leaders Inspire Action,” Simon Sinek discusses how great leaders from different times and places have successfully inspired other people and differentiated themselves from others.
Simon Sinek's Golden Circle model, a beacon of understanding, illuminates why some people and organizations can successfully inspire others and differentiate themselves. The neuroscience behind the Golden Circle reveals that people respond best when messages communicate with those parts of the brain that control behavior and emotions and when making decisions.
The Golden Circle consists of three components:
-
Why: What is your purpose, your motivation, and what do you believe?
-
How: Your process or specific actions taken to realize your why
-
What: The result, what do we need to achieve our goals. Proof.
My Why
Why: I believe a teacher's job goes beyond teaching the school curriculum. Teachers have the power to nurture students’ talents and provide guidance. Besides, the younger generation has evolved, so it is essential to use technology in the classroom to help students develop strong critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity, and curiosity while learning Science, which will serve them well in the future.
How: Implement blended learning as a method of instruction for learning science, providing multiple opportunities for students to experience COVA (Choice, ownership, and voice in authentic learning environments).
What: Kindergarten students are naturally curious and eager to explore, so it is essential to offer ample digital opportunities and tools and give them the confidence to engage in hands-on science concepts. This may involve conducting experiments, observing and recording findings, and building models. Moreover, applying the station rotation model empowers learners to rotate through different stations or learning activities, each designed to meet their individual needs and learning styles.
Watching Dr. John Kotter’s video “Establish a Sense of Urgency” reminds me of when I felt pressured to test my students. I want them to do their best.
This sense of urgency emanates from my attitude, and even my kindergarten students can see that what we are learning is essential, and we have to be quick. As a side note, I would like to say that when I was first teaching, I sometimes was unprepared for what I was presenting for learning, and then the students got the message that what they were doing was not important enough to learn, and then discipline issues arose. I got the message that the sense of urgency helps me manage time more effectively when I am prepared with all the necessary materials before the lesson, my students are ready to learn, all the learning activities are timed, students are engaged, and learning is accomplished.
As educators, we should instill this sense of urgency in our students by establishing a learning environment that promotes it. Ultimately, if our behavior demonstrates a sense of urgency, students’ behavior will most likely follow it.
Dr. Kotter’s “The Heart of Change” video explores how emotions impact our daily lives. He explains how emotions frequently influence our experiences more than thoughts do. Usually, we are persuaded by reason, but we are moved by emotion. To make a big impact, we need to give our emotions top priority and thorough consideration.
Our emotions help us connect with others and understand how a situation makes us feel. As teachers, we can guide our students to recognize and express their emotions so that they have the skills and become better prepared to handle difficult situations in life. We have a common objective of promoting student learning. Establishing clear objectives and sharing our thoughts and feelings with them can positively impact our students’ lives and ensure their success.
