In this ever-changing world of education, our system focuses on evaluating students’ abilities instead of their willingness to learn and grow. This touches me in a profound way because I never thought of that before. The switch in my mind occurred when I watched Dr. Carol Dweck's video about the growth mindset.
It was eye-opening because it allowed me to reflect on my own mindset. Therefore, I will develop the following questions about the growth mindset.
How do you interpret the message of "yet"?
The word yet is very inspiring to me, it lets me know that I still have a chance to keep working on achieving my goals.
How will adopting the growth mindset change the way you learn?
Adopting a growth mindset will allow me to see learning and challenges differently. I will acknowledge my failures or mistakes and see them as an opportunity to keep improving and avoid getting stuck in the "I can't" mindset.
Consider how the growth mindset can change the acceptance of feedback.
Feedback allows me to see the areas where I need to improve, the growth mindset will help me have an open mind and have a better acceptance to receive positive criticism.
What resources (content, video, media, etc.) might you use to learn about the growth mindset?
I will look for more videos from Dr. Carol Dweck about developing a growth mindset.
Review the graphic below compare and contrast the Fixed Mindset to the Growth Mindset and consider where you are on this scale.
Comparing the graphics, I could say that I have been stuck in a fixed mindset in many aspects of my life. After seeing the graphic and all the benefits that a growth mindset offers, I want to transition from a fixed mindset to a growth mindset apply these principles to my own life, and share them with my students.
